I am Pete Ryan, you may have heard of me...No? Did you find something with peteryan.com labeled on it? I would really like to have it back and there may be a reward! pete at peteryan dot com

This is my little spot on the web where I spew words either every day or a few times a year. Who knows.

5.03.2007 - My Ride Home

Fort Snelling State Park

I left work excited to get through the first 4 miles of my ride home. The first 4 miles are all on highways, usually the speed limit is 55 but people usually go 60 or more. Once I got across the bridge and into Fort Snelling I decided to take a few minutes and watch the people across the river sitting on the beach. There were a few people playing with dogs and a few just tanning. I snap a quick picture up river and move out.

I look at my watch when I get near the dog park, 5:10 it blinks at me. I remember telling Anne I would be home by 6. Quick math, 50 minutes to keep riding. It was too nice just to go straight home. So I keep heading north through Minnehaha Park. I come to Minnehaha parkway and cross 55 heading toward Lake Nokomis. I follow the parkway and go around the Nokomis ball fields until I hit Cedar. I follow Cedar back south towards the lake.

When I hit the lake I have a choice to make, long way or short way. Long way it is. I made it home with plenty of time to spare. It was a great day to commute by bike.

That sounds awesome. It's funny how you think to yourself "I'm going to start riding my bike to and from work" and you probably think that's the end of the story. Then you suddenly find yourself with all kind of stuff to blog about. :)

No kidding. When you get in a car and drive pretty much the same roads you miss so much. I would really like to ride one of the long trails in northern mn this summer but doubt I will have time. :( I will be riding tomorrow rain or shine though. :)

Do you take your camera where ever you go?

Pete is NOT a morning person, yet he happily gets up at least 2 hours early every single day to ride to work. That's why I love him :) And yes, he takes his old camera with him on his rides.

Hey, I ride my bike to work too. Except, my bike is a car and I don't so much ride it as drive it sooo ... nevermind. :?

Sounds like a nice scenic ride though!
